Originally I began reworking because the shirts were cool and unique. As I did my research, I realized how harmful many big brands actually are and hope to spread awareness to sustainability initiatives in the garment industry.

 

1. Buying just one white cotton shirt produces the same amount of emissions as driving 35 miles in a car.

2. We discard 92,000,000 tons of clothing waste per year... this translates to 1 garbage truck per second

3. Half a million tons of plastic microfibers from clothing are dumped into the ocean every year, the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles

4. Over 30% of clothing items purchased online are returned, using twice the energy as the initial delivery.

5. Clothing companies create more than 1 million garments every day.

6. The world uses an estimated 80 billion pieces of clothing every year, a 400 percent increase from two decades ago.
